Over the years, after doing many fashion weeks, I like to say I’ve developed a real knack for getting dressed, very quickly. Hair blown out, makeup on, clothes zipped up… I’ve got a process, and it’s efficient as heck.

Lately, though, getting “dressed dressed” has felt mentally and physically exhausting. Add to that dressing my kids, and the occasional moment of Martin asking me to hem something, and it’s chaos. Getting ready for anything with kids is a level of insanity many truly don’t understand. Especially if getting your boys dressed is the equivalent of wrestling an alligator… in the water. A morning routine can look like: “Okay, you shower first while I watch the kids, then we switch. You dress the boys while I do hair and makeup.” Shockingly, it usually goes well. But the anxiety beforehand is there. And thats enough to throw you off.

But here’s the thing: with every child, your body changes. The years pass, and you go through whole seasons of zero fashion; pregnancy, postpartum. And for the women trying to conceive, I know many aren’t investing in new clothes either. Why buy something now if your size might change next season? At the very least, anything investment-worthy should last you a couple of seasons. That said, many moms go through dry spells of a closet that doesn’t feel refreshed.

My shopping habits used to revolve around finding the most avant-garde pieces. I was always at Barney’s NY, sample sales, or scouring amazing designer vintage shops. My closet was… insane. Post-motherhood (and a full shoe size bigger), it’s now built on quality staples; lots of suiting for work, and timeless pieces that last. Now I shop at DISSH, Ssense, Bergdorf Goodman, and other brands that are classic in nature.

The truth is, when life moves faster, you need efficiency more than experimentation. That’s why so many CEOs wear the same outfit every day; it’s one less decision, one less distraction, and saved time. Your wardrobe becomes a toolkit, not a playground.

Last week, I was so busy dressing everyone else that I genuinely thought I needed to go shopping for an event, until I realized I had completely forgotten what I already owned. So I cleaned out my closet instead and rediscovered this gorgeous look. I’m wearing an old Chakshyn jacket (an incredible brand that has sadly closed: similar here), a Storets midi skirt (similar here), and Chanel kitten heels. Every piece is classic and easy to style, and all have been in my closet for 2+ years.

That said, there’s no one right way to shop. However, trying on six outfits for an event is a luxury of time that most of us do not have! And for the moms in the trenches, here are a few ways to keep your style elevated, without feeling like you need to chase every trend. These tips will help you shop your own closet with intention and efficiency.

Here are ten closet tips for classic, minimal style that help getting dressed a lot easier and faster:

1. Stick to minimalist staples.
Invest in pieces like Chanel flats or Manolo Blahnik heels, they’ll never go out of style.
